Copying on UrStyle
@Gypsy-Jo @admin ~ Thank you for your comments regarding copying. I do not go around to look for this, however, I did come across a set that was copied twice. The main items in the set are two females. They were edited in Photoshop and I uploaded them to Urstyle. Here is my set: https://urstyle.com/styles/2028376
I work hard and look long to come up with the ideal image. I have categories that are marked private. However, that does not always prevent an individual to use it. I do not mind sharing my images, but when you copy my set and use my ideas, I really do not like it. Since this morning, I found another set done by one from the above copied sets. I really think that Urstyle should do something regarding this. Thank you.
@beverly Well, one thing you can feel is flattery, but I understand the frustration of hard work being copied by a lazy user. That is not art. It is art theft. @Gypsy-Jo has the right idea. I also have a method I use when this happens. It's not for everyone.
I make sets for the copycat or about them. Here's a collection of some I did on Polyvore. The Copycat Collection
It can be very therapeutic (and effective!) to shame these people. Just sayin'...
@FunkyJunkyGypsy ~ Thank you for your response. It is most appreciated. I enjoyed your Copy Cat Collection. When I was on Polyvore, I have a few sets I made also to the copycat. You have a great collection. Yes, we should feel flattered, but copying does bother me especially after I edit it for use. Oh well, sweetie.........thanks again. Maybe I will borrow a few of your sets to send. Of course, with your permission. Hugs
@beverly Have at it! Or make one. Or I can make one for you! (twisted laughter...)
@beverly Just to clarify, I wouldn't recommend that anyone go looking for copied sets, but once they find that someone has copied one set, the likelihood is that they will find more, and those can be reported - therefore, the more one finds, the more that can be reported.
As for the image that you uploaded that was edited, if you can name them when you upload them, I would suggest maybe naming it something along the lines of "please do not use without asking" if at all possible, perhaps that would help. Ask @admin if that would be something they could assist with if someone were to do so without permission, perhaps?
As for the collections marked private, if they are still available to others, they are of no use being marked private, and that is something we all need to address to @admin because it defeats the purpose. I know that when I marked mine private, it was so that I had the privilege of using the image first, after that I didn't care if someone else used it. (That may not be the case with others, but again, if it is marked private, should it not actually BE private?)
Copycats are always going to happen, I suppose, as we've seen over the years. *sigh...wish it wasn't so, but there it is. I personally choose to confront it head-on. How others choose to do it is up to them, but I know it is hard on anyone it happens to. I know, though, that at this point there is no official "rule" here about it not being allowed....not in writing, and it should be. Assuming people will be courteous just doesn't work with people who have no honor.
Have you reported the sets you mentioned above, @Beverly ?
@Gypsy-Jo ~ Thank you for your comments regarding the copying. I try to overlook these copy cats at times. It only irks me when I have to confront these no creative people. Earlier in this thread , the @admin left a comment. I was hoping that they would have taken care of this by now. I will probably message them again. The response from them is as follows:
admin URSTYLE TEAM 2 months ago
Next week we are planning to implement an extended block feature, which will allow you to block users and do not allow them to see your work/sets/mood board.
We are able to remove stolen sets (exact copies or at least sets which looks like plagiarism) but not a just similar one (e.g. 3 of 8 items has been used in another composition)
So I will not hold my breath, but will definitely touch base again with the @admin. Take note of the second paragraph. Again, thank you. Hugs, Beverly
I was just wondering if the new feature actually works?
I've seen several people ask but no one has gotten back to them about it.
It would be great if it does work because it'll give us all a peace of mind if stalkers and copycats can't see our sets to be copied!
I've discovered something new. It's not copying, exactly, it's more like mimicking. It's taking a couple of the items (one or two at best) from the set and then recreating the set to be very similar. It's not flattery, it's not nice, and I am really astonished at the person doing it because they very obviously have talent of their own - but to take the idea and try to either make it theirs or "one-up" the other person constantly is ugly. Out of the 40 sets I looked at, I found 5 mimicked sets of one person, and two other people that were possibilities for the same behavior.
This person is fairly well-known and liked here. Her sets are admired. But she did this on Polyvore, and brought it here, and has been called out on it before, and apparently got a little bit abusive behind the scenes.
You look at the evidence, and you make your own judgment call. I've already decided that I've had enough of this behavior, and will bring it to this thread every SINGLE time I am told about it.
Now here's how you look at the two of them together and see what I mean. Go to the sample item listed below the two sets and click on the link, and then go to "Inspirations" listed under the item when you're on that page. It will show you a comparison between the two sets. It's not a coincidence that they are the only two sets there time and again. They share a couple of elements, but only a couple, and yet, time and again they show up as the only two with those elements.
I figured that many coincidences that quickly was just too much, and I quit looking. Seriously, it's like copying, but not, and stalking... I leave you all with what I found.
@mommashark, I have stopped following you. I found that I don't care for the coincidences that your sets show with those of @girlinthebigbox, and from what I've been told, you know about this because you've been approached about it. You're an adult, you've made your choices, and I've made mine.
Wow! That 1st one Game of Thrones is very close, not just cause of the same face. She used a red dress and a lion. The whole set looks almost the same as @girlinthebigbox doll! The last one too is way too much the same, the 1st and last are definitely copies, however the others just have 1 item that are the same and I don't see them as copies. It is awfully suspicious that it is momashark every time using @girlinthebigbox items.
@gypsy-jo I did not know she did this on Polyvore or that she had been called out on it and got abusive about it. That is guilt from getting caught!
@girlinthebigbox As you and I discovered last night, the Block feature prevents copiers from seeing your Profile and Sets! Use it on the offenders!!!
@funkyjunkygypsy How does it work?
@gypsy-jo I have not been approched about this! I don't appreciate being lied on and @girlinthebigbox has used similar and same items creating sets that I've used and haven't called her out for it. Because, I don't care for people using my items, but copying sets is a no no. I can choose a few of her sets that looks identical to mine, that I created before her and I haven't said anything about it. However, your ruining my name and calling me a copy cat when I'm not. Look at her fairy and unicorn set for instance, just an example there are others. I created my set before her and hers looks identical to mine.
@rboowybe I havent copied @girlinthebigbox and she has sets that were made after mine that looks identical to mine. I've not said anything, but here people are attempting to mess up my name. For instance look at her fairy and unircorn doll set and then mine, you will see how similar they are. Mine was created before hers.
Also, no one came in contact with me like it says and I sure didnt get abusive behind scenes. I'm honestly shocked that someone would make such false accusations.
Also im hoping to get in contact with @admin over this. Because, I want to make sure if someone is blocked they cant use items of yours and ones you've created, since @girlinthebigbox is using items still that I made and making sets with them items. Like the bee set she posted. I
@mommashark Let's be clear here. I am the one who made the accusations. Read my post carefully. I am not lying, nor am I besmirching your name. I presented facts, with the evidence to back them up. The rest I stated was what I had been told, which is hearsay. Now am I clear?
I also stated that you are liked and that you have talent. Would you like to argue those statements?
You are a grownup. You know full well what you have done. Throwing mud at someone else doesn't change the facts. As for pointing out that she made a set just like yours, note that they are made on the same day and they are not very far apart in number, therefore that is inconclusive. It almost looks as if you share the same brain at times, doesn't it? The two of you probably have a lot in common, and could even be friends, considering how much you must admire her art. It's a shame that all of this is happening instead.
Now I'm done talking about this. If you want to defend yourself, present evidence that proves you were wronged. I will publicly apologize and do so most humbly. However, with what I found early on, it seems likely that you are at fault, and no one else. As I stated, it looks as if this behavior possibly carried on with two other members as well, but I did not go investigate. I DO NOT want to be the URStyle police, but I will publicly out anyone who carries on this kind of behavior. Someone has to.
(And if you don't want anyone using your items, mark them that way. Otherwise, they are up for public use.)
This post is deleted!
@gypsy-jo I'm just defending myself and I'm sure you would do the same.
Her Bee set created after me
Her twin set created after me
Her Unicorn and Fairy set, this one especially looks like mine. She also, had the same name as mine until she changed it. Also, note hers was created 16 days ago and mine was created 17 days ago. So hers was created a day after I created mine.
This is my unicorn and fairy set
@gypsy-jo Also what I was talking about items being used, she shouldn't be able to use items I made or uploaded if I'm blocked. Thats the entire point of being blocked is not being able to see anything from the other person. That goes for comments, messages, items etc.....Thats why I said I was going to get in contact with @admin, because that is something they need to resolve. Because when your blocked you shouldn't be able to do any of that.
Here's what I would advise EVERYONE to do to avoid just this kind of aggravation:
- As soon as you add a major item to your set, while you still have it up on the right side of the screen,
- click on the title of the item (which takes you to the "shop" page) and
- look under Inspirations (directly underneath the item). It shows every single set that has been made that has that item in it.
- Then avoid making any set that looks like any of those.
As for the rest, @admin can sort it out. Take it up with them.
